<Biography of Lifetime>

<Liner-Notes from Thomas Bernett/Strike Anywhere!!>★

Hello Again Bastards! Our friends in Lifetime have given us another fine moment to sing along, and another parallel future to the one that we all thought slept in stillness. In the Nineties, and in New Jersey, the blighted land that is a Garden State for defiant artists and unbleached hard luck anthems, the rebuilding of hardcore and the melodic, confessional soul ( and I mean soul music ) of punk was singing brightly in basements, and community centers , nourishing the kids, revealing a new chapter in the writing of our global protest sound. My own good luck to have played ( in a former band, Inquisition ) with the Lifetime of 1994-95 was to see the deepening of their sound, losing the patina of where-do-we-go-next ? for hardcore had guts and heart, but was in danger of losing its lifeblood to dogma, ritualized violence, a macho cartoon of something far more transcendent and precious.

So, standing in the shadow of a speakeasy quasi-legal club known as the Loft, in deadly urban Baltimore, I captured , by clumsy accident, a memory of a door opening for our art form, this complex and beautifully simple punk rock canvas that we all paint a part of, a physical moment on stage where Dan Yemin runs up the wall with his guitar, and Ari brings the room to a boil with a pitch perfect lovesong about loss and identity . Where everyone in the airborne audience knew they were gonna be telling this story for , well, a lifetime, to their friends who opted that night to stay in .

The lads in Lifetime seem to have navigated the treacherous moral waters of reunion with a creative spark and poise that mark these new times as a return, not a re-enactment. Still honoring their legacy of not playing out a genre fantasy, but taking risks and telling stories with heart that still change the room, band and audience. The world needs more than ever songs from the heart of our movement that have texture and the rebel poetry of finding truths in a society that sells an image of love like soylent green, a cannibalistic processed food that kills the heart, if you sit passively and wait for it. For many of us in the pre-internet punk rock world of those not so distant times, their restless celebration of the psychic blood pouring through the scene at every vital basement show in every town was a call to arms and a shedding of skins to deepen our shared perspective, and build on this positive and undying sound. Welcome back friends, and welcome to all the new people who will be bringing this band into your hearts with each beat, each trademark melancholy breakdown, each hopeful intimate verse , giving strength at the speed of sound.
